What is scalp micropigmentation?
Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a form of cosmetic tattooing. A safe, effective and non-surgical solution to hair loss and hair thinning, the ultra-realistic scalp micropigmentation ink replicates hair follicles that are ready to grow, giving the look of a freshly shaved head or fuller, thicker hair.
This method can be used across the entire scalp, areas of hair loss, balding areas (male pattern baldness) or bald patches, scars or even hairlines. SMP is also a great way to make your hair look thicker if areas of the hair have grown thin. SMP can be used for both short hair and long hair, for men and women.
Who is a Candidate?
Scalp Micropigmentation will work for anyone with hair loss concerns, such as alopecia, thinning hair, pattern baldness, hairline repair, and more. It creates the appearance of hair follicles or subtle stubble. Women also have significant hair loss challenges—and an even greater stigma associated with it. Causes of female hair loss can range from short-term stresses, pregnancy, and certain medications to more permanent hormonal changes, vitamin deficiencies, and traction alopecia (hair loss due to pulling and tension from braids, weaves, and over-styling).
What does Scalp Micropigmentation feel like?
Scalp micro pigmentation is different from a traditional tattoo and the pain levels you might experience during the treatment can vary quite a bit. For some clients, getting scalp pigmentation may feel like no more than a minor annoyance. For others, it can cause moderate discomfort

1. Moisturize your scalp. You need to have soft skin. It’s going to take the needle better. All you need, twice a day, once in the morning and one in the afternoon, a load of moisturizer. Put it on, rub it in there, morning and night. That will soften the skin. Scalp micropigmentation is just going under the surface of the skin. If it’s dry, the needle just bounces off. You get the best treatment with a softer skin.

2. Avoid Blood Thinners such as caffeine, aspirin, and energy drinks. Things like these, they’re going to thin the blood, and what’s going to happen? You’re going to create more bleeding. The blood will mix with the pigment, and then it’s going to dilute it.

Eat a good meal. These treatments can last upwards of 3 - 4 hours. You will need your strength and stamina. You also do not want your blood sugar to drop and cause dizziness, nausea or worse, passing out.
After Care
DAY 1- 4 Avoid touching, showering or shaving the treated area. Avoid any physical activities that may cause excessive sweating. Don’t wash your head or get water on it. The desire to wash your scalp may be strong, but for the first four days you should resist the temptation. Avoid swimming, chlorinated pools, saunas, steam rooms and tanning beds. Avoid razor shaving your scalp for at least 10 days.
DAY 5-7 Wash your head gently with cold water and gentle soap such as Aveeno Baby Shampoo. Apply moisturizer three times daily (with clean hands) to prevent dryness and flaky skin. We recommended using a non-perfumed moisturizer such as Aveeno body moisturizer. For those with shaved heads, avoid growing hair too long. If you do need to shave your head, we advise using an electric foil shaver only as these are less likely to disturb your pigments. However, keep the saver away from scabs that are still present on your head and don’t try to peel them away. No wet shaving with a razor blade for 10 days post each procedure session. You can perform activities from which you sweat lightly. Lift some weights at a low pace, but avoid tough cardio sessions.
DAY 7 AND ONWARD At this point, you can resume your showering sessions and get back to your usual schedule. There won’t be any issues with the water temperature or with the type of shampoo when you wash your scalp. This is the time when you might consider using a razor blade to shave your head. However, avoid using it if there are still healing scabs on the skin. You can now get back to your usual routine at the gym and sweat as much as you’d like.
DAY 30 ( AFTER ALL SESSIONS ARE COMPLETE) Swimming, saunas and tanning booths are now permitted. A quality non-greasy 30 to 50 SPF sunscreen is highly recommended. Moisturize daily with a light moisturizing cream.
